550 – 1948
KingdomAsia

One of the oldest surviving Himalayan kingdoms, ruled from Brahmaur and then, from about 930, from Chamba on the upper Ravi; its unbroken series of copper-plate grants and temple inscriptions makes it the best-documented of the Punjab hill states.

Tributary to the Sikhs from 1809 and to the British after 1846; acceded to the Indian Union on 15 April 1948 and was merged into Himachal Pradesh.
