Carpi

140 – 318
CultureEurope

Tribe (likely of Dacian affiliation, though ethnicity is disputed among scholars) that resided in the historical region of Moldavia in eastern Romania from no later than c. AD 140. Relations with Rome were peaceful at first, first attested by Ptolemy, but the Carpi later became one of Rome's most persistent 3rd-century enemies.

Repeatedly defeated by Roman 'military emperors' (273, 297, 298-308, 317); survivors were forcibly resettled by Rome into Pannonia by 318 as part of a broader policy of repopulating the frontier.
