Butuan (historical polity)

A precolonial Bisaya polity centered on the Agusan River delta in northeastern Mindanao, renowned for gold mining and jewelry and for a long-distance maritime trade network reaching China, Champa, Đại Việt, Srivijaya, Majapahit, and Persia; sent a tribute mission to Song China in 1001.

Declined in prominence relative to Cebu and Manila by the 16th century and came under Spanish colonial administration following contact in the 1520s.
