Burid Dynasty

Turkic atabeg dynasty founded by Toghtekin that ruled Damascus semi-independently of the Great Seljuk sultans from 1104; it resisted the Kingdom of Jerusalem after the First Crusade and, under Mu'in ad-Din Unur, repelled the Second Crusade's 1148 siege of Damascus.

Conquered by the Zengid ruler Nur ad-Din in 1154, ending Burid rule and folding Damascus into the Zengid state.
