The principal kingdom of northern Bali, founded in the mid-17th century by Gusti Panji Sakti, who briefly extended Buleleng's power over parts of east Java and the north coast. Its exposed northern harbours made it the Dutch bridgehead: after the Buleleng expeditions and the fall of the Jagaraga line, Buleleng became the first Balinese kingdom brought under direct Dutch control, in 1849.
Subjugated by the Dutch in 1849 after the North Bali (Jagaraga) wars; became the seat of Dutch administration in Bali.
Covers Buleleng under Panji Sakti and the north-coast kingdoms (Open Library /works/OL2814540W).
