British North Borneo

Territory on northern Borneo administered first by the chartered British North Borneo Company (1882-1946), then directly as a Crown Colony after WWII devastation forced the Company to relinquish control.

Became a British Crown colony in 1946; joined the Federation of Malaysia as the state of Sabah on 16 September 1963.
