Bilaspur State (Kahlur)

Chandel Rajput kingdom of the Sutlej valley, known as Kahlur after its citadel Kot Kahlur; premier state of the Simla Hill group, it claimed tribute from a dozen lesser chiefships until 1790, and its invitation to the Gurkhas in the 1790s let Nepal into the western hills.

Its call for Gurkha help ended in the Anglo-Nepalese War; restored under British protection in 1815, the state acceded to India in 1948 and was merged into Himachal Pradesh in 1954.
