The Red Ochre People of Newfoundland, who painted bodies and tools with red iron oxide and wintered along the Exploits River and Red Indian Lake.

Extinct: pushed from the coast by settlers and disease, the last known Beothuk, Shanawdithit, died of tuberculosis at St. John's in 1829.
