Migratory people of debated (probably mixed Germanic/Celtic-influenced) origin who settled the lower Danube and Dniester region from the 3rd century BCE, serving at times as mercenaries for Hellenistic kings and Dacians alike against Rome.
Gradually absorbed into the Gothic/Sarmatian sphere and Roman frontier politics by the 3rd-4th centuries CE; no longer mentioned as a distinct people after the Gothic migrations disrupted the region.
