Barrancoid Culture

1000 BC – 600
CultureSouth America

Ceramic-series archaeological culture of the Lower Orinoco Delta (type site Barrancas), defined by Irving Rouse and José Cruxent to classify settled riverine agricultural communities of northeastern South America; culturally entangled with, but distinct from, the Saladoid tradition that spread from the same region into the Lesser Antilles.

Its influence is traced forward into later Arauquinoid and related ceramic traditions of the Orinoco basin and the Guianas.
