A leading Kurdish emirate of the Shahrizor region on the Ottoman side of the frontier, which founded the city of Sulaymaniyah in 1784 as its capital; long a military ally of the Ottomans against Safavid/Qajar Iran and the rival Ardalan, abolished in 1850.
