Dynasty founded by Saladin that ruled Egypt and the Levant and ended the Fatimid caliphate.

The Ayyubid Sultanate in Egypt ended when Mamluk officers assassinated the last Ayyubid sultan Turanshah on 2 May 1250 during the Seventh Crusade; Shajar al-Durr briefly became sultana before the Mamluk Sultanate was formally established.
