The kingdom formed in 257 BCE when Thục Phán (An Dương Vương) of the Âu Việt conquered Văn Lang of the Lạc Việt and ruled the Red River country from the citadel of Cổ Loa, until Zhao Tuo of Nam Việt annexed it (179 BCE by the traditional date, 208 by the Chinese one).
Annexed by Zhao Tuo into Nam Việt (208 or 179 BCE); the atlas keeps the traditional 179 end, so the two records overlap 204–179 by design.
