Provisional Government of Assiniboia (Red River)

Louis Riel's Métis-led provisional government, seated at Fort Garry, that governed the Red River Settlement after the Hudson's Bay Company's transfer of Rupert's Land to Canada collapsed local order.

Dissolved into the new province of Manitoba on 15 July 1870, after its delegates (including Abbé Ritchot) negotiated the Manitoba Act with Ottawa.
