Turkmen dynasty that carved out several principalities in Diyar Bakr and the Jazira after Manzikert, splitting into branches at Hasankeyf (Hisn Kayfa), Amid (Diyarbakır), and Mardin; contested territory with the Crusader County of Edessa before becoming vassals of the Zengids, Ayyubids, and later the Mongols.
The Hasankeyf/Amid branch fell to Ayyubid conquest by 1232; the Mardin branch persisted as a tributary state under successive overlords until submitting to the Aq Qoyunlu in 1409.
