Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia

1080 – 1375
KingdomAsia

Armenian state established in Cilicia by refugee nobility (the Rubenid dynasty) fleeing the Seljuk conquest of Greater Armenia after Manzikert (1071); it ruled first as a principality/lordship, then was crowned a kingdom in 1198 under Leo I with papal and Holy Roman recognition, becoming a key Mediterranean ally of the Crusader states.

Survived as an allied power to the Crusaders and later the Mongols until it fell to the Mamluk Sultanate in 1375 with the capture of Sis and the capture of its last king, Leo V.
