Ardalan (Emirate of Ardalan)

1500 – 1867
EmirateAsia

The pre-eminent Kurdish principality of western Iran, seated at Sanandaj; fully independent until 1617, then a semi-autonomous frontier province ('vali of Ardalan') loyal to the Safavids and Qajars until abolished in the 1860s.

Abolished by Qajar Iran in 1867 (some sources 1865/1868), when the hereditary Ardalan valiship was ended and Kurdistan was placed under direct Qajar governors.
