Ancient Chamorro Polity (pre-Spanish Marianas)

1500 BC – 1668
ChiefdomOceania

The ranked, clan-based society of the Chamorro people on the Mariana Islands before Spanish Jesuit missions in 1668, organized into matagi (noble) and manachang (commoner) classes with village-level chiefs rather than island-wide centralized rule.

Destroyed by Spanish conquest during the Spanish-Chamorro Wars (1668–1695); the last military campaign ended in 1695, and the surviving Chamorro population was forcibly consolidated onto Guam in a series of relocations completed by 1699, ending pre-contact Chamorro political organisation across the Marianas.
