An Ammonite kingdom on the plateau east of the Jordan River, whose capital Rabbah underlies modern Amman; conquered by Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar II c. 580 BCE.

Conquered by the Neo-Babylonian Empire and became a Babylonian province in 582/581 BCE following Nebuchadnezzar II's Transjordanian campaign; it continued as a province under Persian and later Hellenistic rule.
