CultureSouth America

Formative-period agropastoral culture of the Arica and Azapa valleys in Chile's Norte Grande, marking the shift from the earlier Chinchorro fisher-forager tradition to irrigation agriculture; known for altiplano-influenced textile traditions (first geometric/figurative designs in the region) and mound (túmulo) burial practices.

Succeeded by later Arica-region cultures (e.g. the San Miguel/Cabuza complex) moving into the first millennium AD.
