Albanian Kingdom (German client, 1943-1944)

1943 – 1944
KingdomEurope

The nominally independent and neutral Albanian state set up under German occupation after Italy's September 1943 collapse, governed by a Regency Council under High Council chairman Mehdi Frasheri with German backing of the nationalist Balli Kombetar; it retained the Greater Albania borders of the Italian period, including most of Kosovo and Western Macedonia.

Collapsed as the Germans withdrew from the Balkans: Tirana was liberated by the Partisans on 17 November 1944 and Enver Hoxha's Democratic Government took over; the last German troops left Albania on 29 November 1944.
