Alalakh (Kingdom of Mukish)

2000 BC – 1200 BC
City-stateAsia

Bronze Age city-state in the Orontes valley that served as capital of the kingdom of Mukish, yielding important archives on Late Bronze Age Syrian diplomacy and society.

Incorporated as a Hittite vassal from the 14th century BCE, then destroyed c. 1300 BCE — recent scholarship reattributes the final destruction to c. 1300 BCE rather than c. 1200 BCE, placing it before or at the onset of the Bronze Age collapse rather than squarely within the Sea Peoples movements; the site was not reoccupied.
