Acre Geoglyph Builders

1000 BC – 1400
Native nationSouth America

Builders of more than 400 geometric ditched enclosures - squares, circles and octagons cut into the terra firme between the Acre and Iquiri rivers, revealed as the forest was cleared in the 20th century.

Enclosure-building wound down by around 1400; the makers' descendants persisted as dispersed forest peoples, the geoglyphs swallowed by regrown rainforest until modern deforestation exposed them.
