Abhira dynasty

203 – 370
DynastyAsia

A dynasty of pastoralist origin (the Abhira/Ahir people) that took the western Deccan after the Satavahana Empire's fall, ruling territory spanning present-day Maharashtra, Konkan, Gujarat, and parts of southern Madhya Pradesh.

Lost ground to the rising Vakataka and Kadamba dynasties and was ultimately supplanted by its own feudatories, the Traikutakas; scattered petty Abhira rulers persisted until c. 370 CE, when the Kadamba king Mayurasarman defeated them.
